Pass
the iced tea, hand me a Popsicle and turn on the fan. It’s Hot! You may
be uncomfortable but your plants are happy and growing beautifully-
assuming you’ve been taking good care of them. Remember that in this
heat, everyone and everything can become dehydrated quickly so make
sure to water correctly. Abell’s Nursery supplies instructions for
this- you can pick up a handout at the nursery or print it directly
from our website!
Summer
typically lasts from late May until late September, so find yourself a
cool spot- preferably with a view of that gorgeous garden you’ve so
lovingly devoted your time to! In case you’re thinking about improving
your yard, this is a great time of year to plant because the rains have
come and will help you get your plants established. It’s also a great
time for a manicure. I know what you’re thinking, but I mean a manicure
for your yard! You know, spread a little mulch, prune some bushes and
trees and don’t forget to fertilize. Your plants are growing their
little hearts out. Give them some nutrients so they can be magnificent!
However, you want to take special precautions to guard against getting
overheated. First dress appropriately- wear light-colored, cool fabrics
that “breathe” and wear a hat that protects your face and ears. We sell
some great gardeners hats at the nursery if you’re in need! Second-
stay hydrated. You want to make sure you drink plenty of fluids. I like
to alternate water with juice or a sports drink. Third- plan to be
inside or in the shadiest/coolest part of your yard during the peak
heat of the day which is typically 1 pm to about 5 pm. Fourth-
be a kid again and when you think you’re so hot you can’t stand it,
play in a sprinkler or spray yourself with the hose! Those lucky enough
to have a pool- jump in and enjoy your refreshing blue oasis. If you
follow these guidelines you can maintain that dazzling landscape of
yours! What better backdrop to your pool party or barbeque than a
lovely botanical wonderland! Not to mention you will be the envy of all
your guests. By the way friend, don’t forget to mention your favorite
garden center when accepting all those compliments from friends
PLANTS: Earth’s architecture, nature’s fresh breath, devine miracle. To the Abell family plants are more than just a way to earn a living, they are a vital part of the ecosystem and a way of living.Plants are the lifeblood of the Earth.
Our Quality Keeps Us Growing
Every winter thousands of people flock to South Florida to be enlightened by our blue skies, green grass, the sway of palm trees and masses of blooms. We believe that when you begin coloring on nature’s blank palette, you should use the highest quality of components. Plants are more than leaves on stems; they are texture, color and balance. Growing plants is an art that requires not only knowledge and skill, but passion with a genuine love and respect for the science.
